The Nifty 250: News of the day in so many words
Weds: Nov 4: Lib Dem Clegg says Liverpool should have greater control on purse strings

LIVERPOOL’S HOMOTOPIA FESTIVAL launched last night at the Novas Contemporary Urban Centre. Artistic director Gary Everett said, “Our campaign slogan this year is Homotopia Not Homophobia, and after the recent violent hate crime against another young man, just because of his sexuality, this is an opportunity for us to show how the arts can be used as a tool to fight ignorance.”

LIB DEM LEADER NICK CLEGG is calling for devolved powers for major cities and hit out at the “grotesque centralisation that was holding back the progress of cities like Liverpool.”

In his speech, at the Core Cities Conference, Nick Clegg said the recession and the impact of the decisions of bankers in London had made clear a to commitment to localism was needed. He said constitutional change was needed which assumes local authorities “have the powers to do what you want to do unless you are told otherwise.”

TV COMPANY LIME Pictures has created a reality show for teenagers. The company, which produces Hollyoaks, filmed the new show, called The Season, for BBC2. It features a group of young adults as they work at the Val d’Isere ski resort, in France, and will be shown for 10 weeks on Saturdays.

SEVEN MILLION TV VIEWERS are taking part in the biggest switchover in UK history as the digital change gets under way. The switchover will see the BBC Two analogue channel being turned off for good, with the remaining analogue channels being permanently switched off on December 2.

Liverpool wag says..“ Does Nick Clegg not know about the mess his Lib Dems in Liverpool have already made of finances. They should have their hands cut off, not given control of more taxpayers money to squander

warrior says..“ Liverpool Wag is a plonke. How long has she been in Liverpoool. Does she not remember Degsy and his Socialist Army (Bovver Boys) who regularly brought the City to a Standstill, and the redundancy Notices the Chair of the main Trade Union who flew around the City dishing out Redundancy notices. Many local Councils have the same problem as Liverpool. A labour Government that is still operating a tory system of giving money out to to Councils that does not bear any resemblance to what is happening in the Communities across the City. Some years ago Liverpool got a 2%; grant settlement of this so called caring government, while Birmingham,Nottingham and other Councils got between 5-7 %; settlement that 1 %; difference was worth £8Million pound,so Liverpool and other Councils in the Mersyside area got robbed of Approx £24-£30 Million pounds.Any money coming to Liverpool from the Governemt does not include help towards the Growing Number of elderly in the City, any payrises for public sector staff over the rate of inflation, all the Asylum and other Immigrants who the Government have dumped in the City. Anyway the new Audit Commision report into the Cities Finances gives the City a good rating. If you think Bover Boy Anderson could do any better yoy are more stupid than I think you are

Anonymous says..“ Is that you Frank? Whoever you are, you expose the racism of some Lib dems

Liverpool wag says..“ You are extremely stupid Warrior for assuming I am a female. Hahahaha

Bartram Wartram says..“ It's not the point if Anderson could do any better, it's the fact that these self-inflated egos, officers as well as councillors, are incapable of handling money. How much in the red is Liverpool again, Lib Dem Warrior? How many tens of billions again? Go on remind the readers. The people of this city, with its massive council taxes, are fukced. I hope you will all agree with me.

Bartram Wartram says..“ I ment "millions" obviously.
