VISITORS CAN TOUR the Grade-I listed 18th Century town hall. Following in the footsteps of The Beatles and the Queen, visitors will also be able to tour the state-rooms and explore the large ballroom. Tours of the building will be available from today until 28 August.
MASKED GUNMEN SHOT a 24-year-old after forcing their way into his home. The victim was confronted by the men in the property on Lauren Close, Huyton, on Friday night and shot once in the leg with a handgun. He was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper thigh. The injury is not believed to be life-threatening. The motive for the attack was unclear and investigations are continuing.

DETAILS OF A UFO SIGHTING in Widnes have been released by the Ministry of Defence. One youngster claimed he saw a UFO hovering over a cemetery before it fired burning laser beams into the ground. The young man was making his way home after a night out in Widnes at 2.30am on July 15, 1996. The MoD and The National Archives released approximately 800 sightings from 1981 to 1996, aimed at opening up the records to a worldwide audience.
MORE THAN 45,000 PEOPLE attended the city’s Art on the Waterfront event at the weekend. Designed to build upon last year’s Capital of Culture, the second of the AOTW three-part series “had all the hallmarks of what last year was all about – free and hands on”. The final free festival will run from September 25-27.
